An invisible layer, made visible. We took our methodology for a case about privacy and turned it into an experience. Through a website with organic shapes, thermal depth, and an interactive 3D generator, we demonstrated how security isn’t an add-on — but a living, adaptable layer within everything service we build. The result is a concept that reframes the story of privacy, from obligation to shared ownership and user experience.

Security – necessary, but boring?

Communication around security is often filled with clichés: padlocks, stock photos, and blue, technical “Matrix”-inspired imagery. When we set out to present our new internal method for working with security, we wanted to challenge those tropes and find a new way to talk about and visualize security.

The goal was to spark curiosity and engagement — not just understanding. Security often ends up in the category of “necessary but dull,” both in visual communication and cross-disciplinary processes. Even though most buyers of digital services value security, research and practice show that it’s often deprioritized when the focus is on creating engaging solutions.

Studies from Snyk and Secure Code Warrior show that more than 60% of developers don’t see security as a priority, while Security Journey and Endor Labs describe how security is often perceived as bureaucratic and uninspiring. We wanted to change that perception — to make the work around security accessible, visually engaging, and meaningful even to those who don’t work with it daily. Not by simplifying it, but by revealing the value of what happens beneath the surface.

The solution

Our guiding question was: how do you visualize something invisible?

We developed an overarching concept to describe what security and privacy actually do — and are. And how our method at Knowit works with them. An invisible layer present in everything we build, keeping our digital solutions safe. Quality assurance, advisory, involvement from the start, and clear ambassadors became key components.

The final solution was built using Three.js and React, combining AI-generated 3D models with a gradient-based heatmap material — visualizing the invisible layer and the hidden structures within the organic objects.
